Before returning to the law in 2004, Paul had a diverse career as teacher, mental health charity manager and group psychoanalyst. Upon qualification in 2008 he joined GT Stewart Solicitors & Advocates as solicitor, thereafter gaining his police station and magistrates court duty solicitor qualifications. He has been supervising teams of paralegals and solicitors since 2012.
A seasoned and skilled trial advocate, litigator and team leader, he brings diverse experiences in previous areas of work to create a unique approach to client care, team dynamics and cross-examination. Paul has a particular interest in defending the mentally vulnerable and in challenging the casual use of injunctive measures such as Criminal Behaviour Orders.
Notable recent successes as litigator include: securing for a vulnerable client alleged to have set fire to his neighbour’s house a mental health treatment order together with a comprehensive re-housing and care package; the acquittal of a helicopter pilot alleged to have conspired to import £6 million pounds’ worth of cocaine into the UK, the only one of five co-defendants acquitted.
