Will works as a Duty Solicitor in the crime department of our South London office and is part of our crime appeals team. He qualified as a solicitor in June 2010, having trained at GT Stewart. Will represents clients for a wide variety of offences and throughout all stages of the criminal justice system.

Will has worked in the criminal justice system in Sierra Leone and as a project manager for a healthcare NGO in Zambia before returning to work for GT Stewart.

Notable Cases:

R v MA- MA, Will represented a young Sudanese asylum seeker fleeing persecution and arriving without a valid visa via a ‘small boat’ to claim asylum. We challenged his prosecution and the interpretation of the law under the revised legislation for these type of cases. This case involved an interlocutory appeal to the Court of Appeal. Although this appeal was unsuccessful this case challenged and highlighted an area of law that appears incompatible with the Refugee Convention and that on passing the legislation the government stated that the intention was to only prosecute the “most egregious cases”.

R v Dixon- successfully persuaded the CPS to discontinue a prosecution for possession of a bladed article that had been listed for trial at the Crown Court. This was possible by highlighting previous inconsistent interactions with the police which clearly undermined the prosecution case that he did not have a ‘good reason’ for possessing the knife.
