GT Stewart brought a civil claim against the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis following a serious incident in which our client, 14-year-old TH, was bitten by a police dog while walking to a park with friends. The dog, which was pursuing an unrelated group of males, attacked TH without provocation, biting his leg and causing him serious injuries. Despite his injuries, the police left him on the ground and continued their pursuit. TH was forced to approach officers himself, and it took considerable time before he was finally taken to the hospital.
As a result of the attack, TH suffered serious wounds requiring two operations, missed school due to medical appointments, and was left with a permanent leg scar and symptoms of PTSD, including a fear of dogs.
Our team put in significant effort to complete all the necessary work and paperwork required for a successful settlement. Despite the defendant failing to respond on liability, they ultimately agreed to settle for £30,000. Greg Stewart’s decision to waive the statutory charge ensured that our client received his full damages for this traumatic incident, which continues to affect him.
Our client was represented by solicitor, Mollie Eglesfield, with additional support from Trainee Solicitor, Natalie Acheampong-Sarpong and paralegal, Felix Parsons.
