GT Stewart today successfully defended EB, who stood trial at Southwark Crown Court charged with conspiracy to commit fraud by false representations and money laundering.

EB was alleged to have been part of a conspiracy to defraud the Department for Work & Pensions by allowing his bank account to be used to receive monies fraudulently obtained by one of his co-defendants, who had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

EB always maintained his innocence. He accepted allowing his bank account to be used by his co-defendant, however was clear that at no stage did he have any knowledge that it related to criminal activity.

After a trial lasting 10 days, EB was unanimously acquitted of both charges.

EB was represented by Kevin Williams at our City of London office, and by Edward Fenner at trial.
