We are a Legal 500 and Chambers UK recommended firm who are currently recruiting a Deputy Head of the Leeds Office to support the leadership and day-to-day management of our Leeds Crime Department.
This is a key senior role within the office, working closely with the Head of Leeds Office to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the ongoing development of the team.
The Deputy Head will play an active role in supervising casework, mentoring junior colleagues, supporting training initiatives, and maintaining strong standards of client care and compliance. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced solicitor to take on a leadership position and contribute to the strategic development of the Leeds office.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Leeds Office in the management and supervision of the Leeds Crime team.
- Assist with the allocation and management of workloads to ensure effective case progression and service delivery.
- Conduct regular file reviews to ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) contract requirements, SRA standards, and firm policies.
- Provide hands-on casework support and guidance, including advising on complex or sensitive matters.
- Mentor and support junior team members, including paralegals, trainees, and newly qualified solicitors.
- Assist in the delivery of training and development initiatives within the team.
- Support quality assurance processes, including performance monitoring and addressing skills gaps.
- Assist with compliance matters, including billing, file management, and case closure procedures.
- Act as a senior point of contact within the office in the absence of the Head of Leeds Office.
Your Profile
- A minimum of 3 years’ PQE with experience in criminal law (family law experience is advantageous but not essential).
- Proven experience in supervising, mentoring, or supporting junior legal staff.
- Strong advocacy, case management, and organisational skills.
- A collaborative and supportive leadership style with the confidence to provide guidance and direction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A strong understanding of LAA requirements, regulatory compliance, and quality standards.
