Representing modern slavery victim charged with possession with intent to supply

We represented KW, a young person charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs x 2 and possession with intent to supply class B drugs. If found guilty of these offences, KW would have received a lengthy custodial sentence.

We obtained a report from Dr Craig Barlow, a modern slavery expert, who confirmed that in his opinion, KW was a victim of modern day slavery when he was growing up. Following service of the report and our defence case statement, the Crown confirmed that they would accept a guilty plea to offences of simple possession of class A and B drugs.

KW pleaded guilty to the offences of simple possession and following mitigation, he was sentenced to a 12 month conditional discharge.

KW was represented by Sabrina Neves of our East Dulwich Office, assisted by Niall Shiels and represented in Court by Higher Court Advocate, Elena Papamichael.
