Susan is a senior supervising solicitor in the Housing Team here at GT Stewart.
Susan graduated in Law and Economics in 1989 and then completed her Law Society Finals in 1990 at Chester Law School. She qualified as a solicitor in 1993. Susan then worked as a Family and Housing Lawyer at Ronald Fletcher and Co in Maida Vale until 1999. She became Head of Department for Social Housing and Welfare at Aaronson and Co ( based in Earl’s Court and Kensington ) for five years and then joined the housing team of Thomas and Co in January 2005 until GT Stewart took over the housing team in 2011. She has therefore has remained with our housing team since 2005.
Susan works in all aspects of social housing law including possessions, homelessness, unlawful eviction, judicial review and appeals. She frequently works with vulnerable clients – those with social and mental health issues and clients who lack capacity and who require assisted representation through a third person or the Official Solicitor.
Susan has always had a large base of disrepair cases and has consistently succeeded in securing high awards of damages for her clients.
She has worked on many notable cases and cases in the Court of Appeal during her career. Susan was also the solicitor for Mr Malcolm in the House of Lords case of London Borough of Lewisham V Malcolm. This was the leading case responsible for the important changes brought about to Disability Discrimination Law by the Equality Act 2010.
When she is not putting the world to rights, Susan enjoys music, creative cooking, reading , long walks and spending time doing anything adventurous and musical with her husband and 3 children.
