GTS Secure Release of Child Following Successful Appeal

GT Stewart today succeeded in securing the release of a child from prison following an appeal against his sentence at Canterbury Crown Court.

JC, a 17-year-old vulnerable client, was sentenced to a Detention and Training Order (DTO) for 12 months following a conviction at the Youth Court on 20 July 2020.

An immediate appeal against his sentence was submitted, arguing the sentence of detention was disproportionate and the lower court failed to take into account the psychological report prepared on his behalf. At the appeal hearing today, the judge agreed with the submissions put forward on JC’s behalf and substituted the DTO for an Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme (ISSP), meaning he was released immediately.

JC was represented by Kevin Williams of our City of London office, and at the appeal hearing by Angelika Rokad of 6 Pump Court Chambers.
