GTS today secured the acquittal of our client WD, who faced one count of rape.

The allegation concerned an incident that dates back to 2018, when WD was 18 and the complainant was 16. In the four years that followed, the case involved two trials both of which resulted in a hung jury. The Crown confirmed today that a third trial would not be pursued and no evidence was offered.

WD was represented by a legal representative from a different firm during his initial police interview. He was advised to submit a prepared statement in interview. Following a successful application by trial counsel instructed on behalf of this firm, elements of the prepared statement which were unhelpful to WD’s case were not admitted in evidence.

WD, a man of good character, was delighted at the outcome and he is now able to move on with his life.

WD was represented by Kevin Williams at our City of London Office, and at both trials by Ravinder Saimbhi of 33 Bedford Row Chambers.
