We represented a vulnerable adult of previous good character who had been charged with importation of class A drugs. Our client was stopped by Border Force after arriving at Gatwick Airport from Guyana. Following a search of their luggage, officers found 2.2kg of Cocaine. Our client made full and frank admissions in their interview and told the police that they had imported the drugs in order to fund lifesaving medical treatment. Our client pleaded guilty at their first appearance and was subsequently committed to the Crown Court for sentence. At the sentencing hearing, the Crown argued that the starting point was one of 8 years imprisonment. After considering the submissions made on our client’s behalf, the Court sentenced our client to 40 months imprisonment.
Our client was represented by Sabrina Neves, a solicitor in our Croydon Crime Team, and in Court by Grace Khaile of Mountford Chambers.
