GT Stewart Solicitors & Advocates represented W, who was charged with GBH with intent at Preston Crown Court. The allegation against W was that he punched his partner to the face and then stabbed her with a knife to her thigh, abdomen and breast. The complainant attended Blackpool A&E and she told the police that her partner was a “psychopath” who was responsible for the bruising to her face and her stab wounds. When police arrived to arrest W, he handed over a blood-soaked towel and a kitchen knife and told them that the complainant had stabbed herself. W was represented by in-house solicitor-advocate, Phil Mahoney, who was able to identify inconsistent accounts given by the complainant to hospital staff and to her own mother, who confirmed that she was quite drunk when she arrived home in the early hours of the morning. W maintained his not guilty plea and insisted that the complainant had stabbed herself throughout the six day trial. The not guilty verdict was by majority.
W was represented by Patricia Walker as litigator and Philip Mahoney as advocate.
