Our client, the family of EC, was involved in a civil claim against a mental health hospital operated by the Defendant, after EC tragically passed away in their care. The inquest into EC's death, concluded in March 2022, found evidence of neglect. In 2023, the Defendant partly admitted liability and issued an apology to the family. However, the quantum remained in dispute, with the Defendant initially reluctant to offer more than £20,000.
After extensive negotiations, the family accepted a settlement of £40,000, which included individual claims for EC’s sister, father, stepmother, as bereaved family members, as well as EC’s estate.
Our client was represented by solicitor, Mollie Eglesfield, who had previously been handling the case, with assistance from paralegal, Felix Parsons in the negotiations that ultimately led to the settlement.
