Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Prison Law Solicitor to join us as a Supervising Solicitor. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day supervision of fee earners and consultants, deliver high-quality legal advice and representation to clients, and contribute to the continued growth and success of our prison law offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of prison law fee earners and consultants, ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory and quality standards
- Conduct regular file reviews and performance monitoring
- Manage a personal caseload of complex prison law matters including parole reviews, adjudications, recall, and categorisation
- Provide guidance and training to team members
- Ensure high levels of client care and service delivery
- Contribute to audits, legal aid compliance and reporting requirements
- Support business development and team strategy
- Coordinate or oversee billing responsibilities for the prison law team, including standard and exceptional (CRM18) cases, or support the transition of billing to the relevant internal team
About You
- A qualified solicitor with 3+ years PQE in prison law
- Supervisor status under the Legal Aid Agency’s Prison Law contract or able to meet the requirements
- Strong working knowledge of legal aid processes and public funding criteria
- Proven experience in managing a team or supervising others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Committed to client care, professional integrity, and promoting access to justice
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid setting
