We are seeking a permanent, full-time Legal Aid Billing Assistant for our busy and expanding Family Department.

Location: The Family Department have teams across multiple offices and therefore we are open to the successful candidate being based at one of the following locations, and/or alternatively a hybrid working model can be agreed after an initial period of training:

📍Kent [Canterbury & Margate];

📍London [Barnet, Croydon, East Dulwich, Hammersmith, Woolwich];

Your Profile:

You will preferably:

  1. Have experience using the Legal Aid Agency Client and Cost Management System (CCMS).
  2. Have excellent attention to detail.
  3. Have excellent organisational Skills: A strong ability to organize and prioritize tasks is essential for managing a high volume of billing activities efficiently.
  4. Possess excellent communication Skills. The ideal candidate should possess strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information clearly and professionally.

We would like the ideal candidate to:

  1. Review communications from the Legal Aid Agency for fee earners in the department, including-
  • Actions;
  • Notifications;
  • Communications about High Cost Case Plans.
  1. Save communications from the Legal Aid Agency on our case management system, and liaise with Family Department Staff where necessary.
  2. Oversee Family Department claims process for disbursement and invoices from experts being made to the Legal Aid Agency; liaising with the experts, our Accounts Department and fee earners where necessary;
  3. Be involved in the allocation of Counsel fees on the Legal Aid Agency Client and Cost Management System (CCMS).
  4. Liaise with our Costs & Billing Team, the court and counsel chambers where required.
  5. Be the point of contact between the Family Department and Costs Team for files closing and being transferred over for billing.
  6. Provide assistance to the wider Costs Department with billing of Family files where required.

The salary bracket for this this position will start at £25,000 and will be dependent on location and experience.
