Crown forced to offer no evidence for serious assault case – Leeds Crown Court web

K was charged with one offence of assault by beating. It was alleged that he had slammed a door into his mother following a heated argument.

On the day of trial, the Prosecution’s witness attended and gave evidence. Our client accepted that he had closed the door on his mother, but that he had not intended or foreseen that the door would have struck her. We successfully argued this point in our closing submissions, which resulted in the Magistrates returning a not guilty verdict.

K was represented by Ed Youlton of our Leeds crime team throughout the court proceedings, from his first appearance at the Magistrates’ Court until his trial.
