Profile

Ghazala Parveen joined GT Stewart as a Prison Law Supervisor in August 2025, bringing over 30 years of legal experience, with a specialisation in Prison Law since 2010. She began her legal career in the Welfare Department, working as a Caseworker in Housing, Welfare, and Debt Law. Her dedication and expertise led to her promotion in 1999 to Welfare Benefits Supervisor, a role she held for over a decade before moving into Prison Law. This early experience gave her a deep understanding of the challenges faced by some of the most vulnerable in society, shaping the empathetic and holistic approach that defines her work today.

Since transitioning to Prison Law, Ghazala has served as a Supervisor for more than 10 years, developing an in-depth understanding of parole reviews, adjudications, recalls, categorisation, and IPP sentence termination. She has worked on some of the most complex and high-stakes cases in the criminal justice system. Her work is driven by an unwavering commitment to human rights, justice, rehabilitation, and the belief in second chances for those involved in the prison system.

Notable experience or interests outside of Law

Her career has been further enriched by her longstanding involvement in social justice work. For over 20 years, Ghazala has served on the board of a charity dedicated to supporting disabled children and their families. In this capacity, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the charity’s strategic direction, advocating for inclusion, equal opportunity, and access to vital services. Her work with the charity has deepened her commitment to social responsibility and reinforced her belief in the importance of fair treatment for all members of society – values she brings directly to her Prison Law practice.

In addition, Ghazala has extensive experience working with individuals struggling with homelessness and debt issues. This hands-on involvement has given her valuable insight into the broader social challenges that feed into the criminal justice system, including the impact of poverty, mental health difficulties, and lack of support networks. These experiences have informed her advocacy in Prison Law, where she seeks not only legal outcomes but also systemic changes to address the root causes of criminal behaviour.

Ghazala’s passion for social justice and inclusion continues to drive her fight for fairness and equality in all aspects of her work. Whether advocating for better rehabilitation opportunities within the prison system or ensuring that vulnerable individuals have access to the support they need to rebuild their lives, she stands firmly at the intersection of law, human rights, and social equity.
