
GT Stewart would like to congratulate Dr Laura Janes on being appointed as an Honorary King's Counsel. She was nominated for her contributions to the legal profession promoting access to justice, her work to drive policy changes, representing vulnerable individuals in prison, advocating for the rights of children and young people in custody and reforms to the IPP sentence.
Dr. Laura Janes is a consultant solicitor at GT Stewart with expertise in complex cases involving individuals detained within the criminal justice and mental health systems. As Legal Director at the Howard League for Penal Reform from 2016 to 2022, she led legal services for young people in custody and challenged harmful practices such as solitary confinement. Laura also founded Young Legal Aid Lawyers, holds a professional doctorate in youth justice and teaches law at London South Bank University.
