Our client faced four counts: conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to cause S.18 GBH, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition on a joint enterprise basis at the Central Criminal Court. It was alleged that he and his three co-defendants were part of a conspiracy to murder another male at an after party over the Notting Hill Carnival weekend in August 2022 and specifically that our client was supervising the actions of the co-defendants.
Our client was arrested in early November 2022 and was remanded in custody until trial, which due to the backlog of cases following Covid and the subsequent Bar Strike, was fixed to start almost exactly one year after his arrest in early November 2023.
Following the close of the Crown’s case in December 2023, submissions were made that there was no case to answer on any of the four Counts by our client and the co-defendants. These submissions were successful and the Crown confirmed the following day that they would not be appealing the Learned Judge’s decision. All defendants were released from the court building free men!
Our client was represented by Sophie Smith, assisted by Nicole Windele, at our Croydon Office, and by our In House Advocate Ed Fenner at court.
