GT Stewart were delighted to win the LALY 2019 for Access to Justice through Technology. Working with Accesspoint Legal Services, we have spent 12 months successfully developing a Formshare solution through tikit (PW4 Windows) case management to capture electronic data in the police station which will allow seamless and automatic file opening and billing of police station cases. This will allow us to continue to provide advice to vulnerable people in the police station despite the stagnant and depressed rates of public funding available which pay on average a fixed fee for cases in London of about £250 and outside £175 to cover up to 15-20 hours work on a case.
We are currently rolling out similar technology with Accesspoint that will apply to advocacy in the Magistrates’ Courts, Youth Courts and Crown Courts. GT Stewart are committed to making any efficiency possible that allows them to continue to provide legal services in these publicly funded areas where it is most needed (and poorly remunerated).
