Bill Bache worked in the family and appeals teams at GT Stewart for many years. He was taken into hospital with Covid related symptoms on 24th December and despite recurrent promising signs Bill never managed to recover fully and sadly passed away on 25th March 2021.
Bill was a tremendous lawyer, sometime deputy Coroner for Hampshire, and hero to all of those whom he represented. He is best known for his involvement in the terrible case of case of Angela Cannings and his doughty work in exposing the flawed paediatric opinions propounded by Prof Roy Meadow which had wrecked the lives of many parents and their children, and which led to the later exoneration of his client.
This case was typical of Bill’s innate scepticism when faced with those who claimed infallible orthodoxy (even if they were universally respected).
But of greater importance than his exceptional skills as a forensic medico-legal lawyer, was Bill’s humanity and the intense care he brought to every legal scenario he scrutinised with an experienced eye and heartfelt empathy towards his clients.
Bill was a lovely man; he personified the great virtues of not prejudging and taking every person as he found them.
He will be very sadly missed and our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
