- GT Stewart recently represented a client in an action for negligence against the prison service. Our client was at risk of being assaulted by other inmates in the prison due to his age and gang links. Prison staff failed to take measures to protect our client despite knowing that he was at risk, resulting in him being assaulted on multiple occasions by other inmates. The Ministry of Justice settled the claim for almost £9,000.
- GT Stewart successfully secured damages of £1,350 for a client who was arrested by officers of the Metropolitan Police Service on suspicion of breaching a restraining order that had expired. He was lawfully arrested on suspicion of a public order offence at the same time but was granted bail in respect of the public order offence after 10 hours in police custody. He was detained for a further 5 hours before police confirmed that there was no active restraining order against him and he was released.
- The Metropolitan Police Service has settled a case where our client was detained at the police station on a warrant which had already been dealt with. GT Stewart Solicitors pursued an action for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment on behalf of our client, and secured damages of £3,000.
