GT Stewart Solicitors & Advocates’ Pupil Barrister, Sarah Memmi, talks about access to justice, the importance of legal representation and becoming a barrister.
Sarah Memmi was invited by the University of the West of England, where she previously studied law and completed the Bar Professional Training Course, to be a speaker on the first day of their two-day Diversity in Law Event. Sarah discussed the difficulties in accessing justice, particularly post-LASPO, and stressed the importance of legal representation and diversity at the Bar in areas of law which include crime, prison, family and housing.
Sarah encouraged current students to join the professions, emphasising the need for passionate and committed lawyers in a bid to preserve our justice system.
Sarah also discussed her journey to securing pupillage with us, the professional experience she obtained and gave examples of the various roles relevant to the profession as well as some desirable alternatives in modern legal practice, such as Higher Rights of Audience solicitors (solicitor-advocates), legal executives and legal apprentices.
