GT Stewart secures an acquittal following a trial at Bradford Youth Court.
JW was 16 years of age when he was charged with a serious assault involving the stabbing of a male in Dewsbury in May 2022. It was alleged that two males were going back to their home after being dropped off by a taxi, when they were confronted by 3 males, all of whom were being aggressive and demanding they hand over cigarettes. When the males refused, the Crown say that there was a fight which resulted in one of the males being stabbed several times causing two significant injuries to his left thigh (requiring surgery) and an injury near to his ear.
Patricia Walker, a Partner at our Leeds office, represented JW at the police station where he gave a full account of the incident and raised his defence. Philip Mahoney of GT Stewart’s Crown Court Team represented JW at his trial and was able to successfully challenge the Crown’s case to establish that there was no direct evidence that JW was the person who caused the injury to the complainant.
