The officer in question conducted the search without providing any information to our client about why he was being searched, in breach of police law and codes of conduct. Following the search, the officer arrested our client on a warrant which had already been executed the previous month. The police agreed to settle his claim for £8,000 for the unlawful search and detention.

Someone arrested on a warrant backed for bail should be arrested, given a new date to attend court, and then released. Instead, our client was arrested by police officers and taken to Bromley Police Station where she was given a new court date and then driven back home by the officers. She was detained for approximately one hour and was not placed in handcuffs at any time. Eva sent a Letter of Claim to the Metropolitan Police Service on behalf of our client. The police initially argued that they were entitled to take her to the police station in order to give her a new date. They eventually backed down and agreed to pay her £1,500 in compensation.
