Jack joined GT Stewart in February 2026 as Head of Family in our Leeds team, bringing over ten years of experience in Family Law. He specialises in Public Law Children Act proceedings, representing both parents and children in complex and often sensitive cases.

Jack has extensive experience in proceedings under the Children Act 1989 and the Family Law Act 1996, advising and representing clients in applications for a wide range of orders. He has been a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel since 2017, reflecting his expertise in representing children and parents in public law matters.

Jack conducts his own hearings and regularly represents clients in the Family Court and the High Court. He is experienced in cross-examining witnesses, professionals and expert witnesses, ensuring his clients’ cases are presented clearly and robustly. His hands-on approach provides continuity and reassurance, allowing clients to feel supported and informed throughout proceedings.

Alongside his advocacy work, Jack brings strong leadership experience to his role. He has previously supervised solicitors and managed a busy Leeds office, developing a reputation for maintaining high standards and ensuring clients receive thorough and carefully managed representation.

Jack has built a broad foundation of experience throughout his career, including Children Act proceedings, divorce and financial proceedings, housing law, possession claims and drafting wills. This breadth of knowledge gives him a well-rounded understanding of the wider challenges families may face alongside care proceedings.

As Head of Family in Leeds, Jack understands the gravity of care proceedings and is dedicated to protecting his clients’ rights and achieving the best possible outcomes for families.

Jack represents clients that:

  • Are from the travelling / Roma communities;
  • Are children in Care Proceedings and Deprivation of Liberty proceedings;
  • Are Children in Private Law Proceedings where they are made a party to proceedings
  • Are parents and other family members facing the most serious of allegations that a family court can deal with;
  • Foreign nationals from across the world where English has not been their first language;
  • Are from the Romany Gypsy and Travelling communities;
  • Neurodivergent clients;
  • Vulnerable adults and those with learning difficulties and learning disabilities;
  • Parents that are incarcerated;
  • Vulnerable adults where the Official Solicitor has become involved;

Jack deals with cases that include:

    • Care Proceedings
    • Emergency Protection Orders)
  • Complex Child Protection Proceedings including:
    • The death of a child;
    • Shaken Baby allegations;
    • Genetic disorders mimicking child abuse;
    • Non-accidental injuries (NAI) including head injuries (NAHI), fractures and bruising;
    • Sexual abuse;
    • Fabricated Induced Illness (FII) and Perplexing Presentation (PP);
    • Cases where there are concurrent criminal proceedings;
  • Special Guardianship Order Applications;
  • Placement Order and Adoption Order Applications;
  • Secure Accommodation Applications;
  • Deprivation of Liberty Applications (children);
  • Recovery Order Applications.
  • Cases where parents are involved with Social Services (Pre-Proceedings Meetings, Child Protection and Child In Need);
  • Applications under the Court’s Inherent Jurisdiction;

  • Private Law Children Work (Contact and Residence disputes, Prohibitive Steps and Specific Issue applications;
  • Injunctions (under the Family Law Act and Harassment Act);

  • Successfully opposed Care Order and Placement Order application before Mr Justice Hedley. Jack was the solicitor advocate throughout proceedings and at the final hearing.
  • Successfully represented and conducted the advocacy for a parent in a non-accidental injury case in front of a high court judge. The judge found that the injury was accidental and the child returned to the client’s care.
