Success Story 1
GTS persuaded the CPS to discontinue proceedings against a young person who had been found to be a victim of modern slavery by the competent authority. The 17 year old was of good character and had given a full explanation when interviewed by the police. A full letter of representations was sent to the CPS reminding them of their duty to review and own test for prosecution. They were further reminded of the non punishment principle in relation to victims of modern slavery and advised that proceeding with the case was likely to result in a breach of European law that would necessitate an abuse of process hearing. With less than a month until the trial, the CPS finally agreed to offer no evidence. The client was represented by Mel Stooks, Head of Youth Department
Success story 2
A 21 year old autistic defendant received a 2 year conditional discharge for offences of making indecent photographs of children and possession of extreme pornography. GTS was referred this case through the National Autistic Society. They were able to instruct a psychiatrist who properly identified the issues behind the defendant’s actions and this report enabled the judge to sentence outside the sentencing guidelines.
