Miriam joined the GT Stewart team in December 2019 and works as a specialist caseworker in the Mental Health Department, assisting in the full range of work that the department undertakes.
She accepts instructions in relation to civil and forensic mental health law matters and represents clients at Hospital Managers’ Hearings, and CPA/s.117 meetings, including those held at high security facilities.
Miriam was called to the Bar in 2017 and, prior to joining GT Stewart, worked as a Crown Court defence paralegal at a specialist criminal law firm in London and as a Litigation paralegal at a Silver Circle City firm on civil fraud and insolvency matters. Given her experience in criminal law matters, Miriam is well placed to assist clients detained under forensic sections of the Mental Health Act.
Alongside her professional work, Miriam has completed pro bono work with a range of projects and organisations including the SPITE #revengepornlaw project, the National Centre for Domestic Violence, and StreetLaw.
Miriam also undertook an internship with the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Tribunals mission at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, where she worked as a member of the IM Chaem Defence team.
Miriam’s advice is pragmatic and sound and she is popular with our clients for her easy-going, yet thorough and straightforward approach.
Miriam is due to start a common law pupillage in September 2022.
