AAP Team Supervisor

0113 222 4888

Michael has worked in criminal litigation and police related work for over 20 years. Most of his experience was gained with established firms in the Merseyside area. He initially specialised in criminal litigation which gave him an invaluable insight into the everyday working practices of the police when dealing with those suspected of criminal conduct. It also gave him a first class knowledge of the Police & Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and the related codes of conduct that apply to the exercise of police powers. It taught him how criminal cases often fell apart through the erroneous assumptions that police officers can make in their failure to carry out adequate investigations.

For the past 10 years Michael has specialised in actions against the police and public authorities. He has been involved in cases against the police who have engaged in inappropriate relationships with vulnerable victims of crime as well as cases which have resulted in death.  He has conducted inquest cases including the advocacy. Michael has a particular interest and expertise in cases involving police dogs, the use of tasers, and  unlawful arrest cases.

He has gained a reputation amongst clients and colleagues for representing clients with the tenacity and compassion needed to obtain the best possible outcome. His experience covers the full range of claimant cases up to and including jury trials. He is an approved Legal Aid Agency supervisor and he supervises our Legal Aid contract which covers the misuse of power and includes both civil liberties and human rights claims as well as action against the police and public authorities.
