Clare was admitted to the role of solicitors in 1999. She obtained higher rights of audience in 2006 and appeared primarily in the Crown Court from that point onwards. She transferred to the bar in 2015.

Clare has been led by Queen’s Counsel on many murder trials at the Old Bailey. She has recently led junior counsel in a complex gang and drugs trial at the Old Bailey. She regularly defends in long complex trials ranging from offences of violence, drugs, sexual offences and fraud.

Recent case:

The client was accused of the attempted murder of another inmate at the prison where he was serving a sentence. The victim had been attacked with a razor blade causing serious injury to his throat. After a trial lasting 5 days the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.

The client was accused of sexual assault on his daughter. He and his wife were also accused of child neglect. The trial lasted 3 weeks and involved cross-examination of three young child witnesses.

Client was accused of grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. The offences arose out of an incident outside the client’s school when he was 15 years old. The client accepted that he had caused injury with a knife to another boy but had been about to be attacked. He pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm. The client had no previous convictions. The court was persuaded to remit the case back to the youth court where he received a referral order.
